Artists Workshop

Artists Workshop Inc. of New Smyrna Beach offers adult classes and workshops in the studio at 540 Barracuda Blvd.

The 12th annual New Smyrna Beach Plein Air Paint Out, “Discover Nature through Art,” will be Oct. 18-22 on the grounds of Artists Workshop and Marine Discovery Center. For more information, visit nsbpaintout.com.

Hub on Canal

The Hub on Canal has workshops and classes at 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

“More Than Words Can Say,” mixed media and prose by Johanna Riddle is on display in the Founder’s Day gallery. Exhibit viewers can select from provided written passages and create a “piece of art” they feel reflects that passage. The creations can be uploaded to a file Ms. Riddle will manage during the exhibit, which will be on display to Oct. 30.

Art in the Form of Film with Paul Marino will meet from 5:45 to 9 p.m. Friday,, Oct. 21.“Forrest Gump” (1994) will be shown. Mr. Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion. The fee is $7, which includes glass of wine or bottle of water.

Quilling with Joni David will meet from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Quilling is an art form that uses strips of paper to roll, shape and glue together to create intricate and decorative designs. The fee is $90 for members and $100 for non-members. Blue and White Basics with Judy Pickett will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Learn the basics of Cyanotype, an alternative photography method that uses the light of the sun to develop a blue and white image. Pencils, Pastels and Patterns with Renee Lewis will meet from 10:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Explore and discover the richness and surprising results of working with color pencils, pastels and repetitive patterns on a black background. A new class is the Creative Consortium with Facilitator Lisa Carlson from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Ms. Carlson will lead an exploration of creativity. Museum of Arts & Sciences

The Museum of Arts & Sciences offers events and exhibits at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.

“Minor Masterpieces: Porcelain Painted Scenes from the Collection” will be on display to Dec. 4. The exhibit highlights miniature scenes, some of which were painted by highly-regarded painters, and shows the mostly forgotten technique, once considered essential for the well-dressed table.

Beaux Arts of Central Florida celebrates its 60th anniversary with 42 artists this year exhibiting their art in the juried show “Epiphany: Visions of Art.” The show will run until Nov. 27.

“Tech Savvy: Home Technology from 1890s to the 1990s” will be on display until Dec. 4.

“Key West: Southernmost USA” exhibit is on display. Explore the southernmost point of the continental United States.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum

Ormond Memorial Art Museum is hosting more than 100 pieces of the Colored Pencil Society of America’s 30th Annual International Exhibition at 78 E. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach.

The 101 pieces, plus two additional pieces from past award winners, will be on display to Nov. 13.

A two-part ceramic painting workshop with Mari Hurley will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. The cost is $150 for members and $167 for non-members. No experience necessary. Open to participants 16 and older. All supplies are included.

Three days of poetry

The Creative Happiness Institute, as part of its sponsorship of the Volusia County Young Poets Mentoring Program, will play a central role in the Daytona Beach poetry conference.

Oct. 21 to 23, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies and the Florida State Poets Association is sponsoring the first national championship slam poetry competition in Daytona Beach. Competitors are expected from across the country and will be limited to 48 of the top spoken-word poets.

CHI’s Slam Master Kevin Campbell and Volusia County Poet Laureate Dr. David B. Axelrod will assist poetry workshops Oct. 22, and organize the BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam Competition on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University.

There are opportunities to perform and attend workshops. Young poets are counted between 14 up to 21 years of age. Other interested poets may attend and read as part of open-mike sets and compete in adult categories.

First place prize money will be $2,000; second place, $1,000; third place, $500; fourth place, $250; fifth place to 12th place, $125. Sacrificial poet will receive $100

ArtHaus classes

ArtHaus offers several classes at 3840 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.

Acrylic Painting Class for ages 18 and older will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The classes are taught by professional artists Aaron Shelton and Savannah Zanosky. These are two-class sessions and supplies are included. Each class is $60 and includes a professionally hand-stretched canvas.

Arts After School will meet from 4 to 5p.m. Tuesdays for ages 5 and older. The cost is $20 per class and all supplies are included. Registration is required.

Museum of Art-DeLand

Museum of Art-DeLand will host Robert Shetterly’s “Americans Who Tell the Truth, Portraits of Activists” until Dec. 11 at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

Mr. Shetterly, 75, an activist and self-taught artist, has been painting outspoken Americans for more than 20 years. More than 50 of his portraits will be featured.

An artist talk will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. Admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. Space is limited; reservations required.

Najee Dorsey’s Southern Crossroads will be featured at the Museum of Art-DeLand from Oct. 7 to Dec. 23, at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. Admission is free for museum members and $10 for non-members. Reservations are appreciated.

Deltona Art Club Show

The Deltona Art Club Show and Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to Nov. 26, at the Enterprise Museum, 360 Main St.

Gateway Center for the Arts

Gateway Center for the Arts hosts pottery classes for adults from noon to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at 880 N. U.S. 17/92, DeBary.

Classes are for beginner and intermediate students. Each session is $50. Masks are required and class sizes are limited.

The DeLeon Springs Community Association is accepting applications for its eighth annual Autumn in the Oaks Art, Music and Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in Spring Garden Park, 5489 N. U.S. 17.

Youth Choir
